Juhi Huda, PhD
Research Associate
Juhi is an environmental policy, governance, and communication scholar with interdisciplinary training in environmental studies. She conducts research in diverse areas including food systems governance, water governance, disaster and hazards, climate change policy, and urban governance. Her recent projects have examined stakeholder engagement in the Smart City Mission and the role of stakeholders in protecting urban green spaces in India. Before joining the Simpson Centre, she was an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at FLAME University, Pune, India. She has also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and California Institute of Technology where her research examined socioeconomic dimensions of freshwater availability in connection to tracking and quantifying human impacts on the water cycle. As a doctoral student at the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, she examined the role of information in stakeholder communication and the role of evidence and risk perception in the agricultural biotechnology policy process in India. In other collaborative research projects, she has examined the role of citizens and information in wildfire mitigation and framing of problems, solutions, and community adaptation in response to wildfire; the strategic use of information in climate change communication; social and ecological impacts of extreme winter storm events in the Lake Tahoe region; and how organizations view policy challenges that arise from climate change.
She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado, Boulder, an M.A. in English (Literature and Environment emphasis) from University of Nevada, Reno, and a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from University of Pune, India. She has taught courses in the areas of Environmental Studies, Writing and Rhetoric, and Core Humanities at FLAME University, University of Colorado Boulder and University of Nevada Reno.
